What Bob Seger Taught Me

I recently saw one of the final shows from a God of Classic Rock.

While I'm not a rabid Bob Seger fan (I’m more into Bruce & Bruno), I still wanted to see this music legend live at least once. I had no idea how amazing it would be! He sold out the nearly 20,000 seat venue and had every one of those (mostly senior) fans dancing, singing, and smiling for hours. It was not a concert; it was an experience.

How does a septuagenarian deliver roof-rocking performances after almost 60 years in the business?

Community – These weren’t just fans at the show; they were extended members of the Silver Bullet Band. They wore the old concert shirts. They knew all the lyrics. They were a part of something bigger than one person.

Passion – Even at 73 years old, Bob belted each hit out like it was the first time. And that fire spread into every heart, reminding each of us that age is only a number.

Commitment – This wasn’t some stodgy old fart shuffling onto the stage. Here was a man who clearly placed a high value on his health and the quality of music. You could see and feel how much he cared, so we cared too.

I don't know about you, but I want to be like Bob - creating communities, acting with passion, and committing to excellence! Now THAT'S how to light up a room.
