I want to be Bill Murray.
Or to be more precise, I want to emulate the way Bill Murray has impacted so many with his delightful celebration of the present moment. I just finished watching The Bill Murray Stories on Netflix, a wonderful documentary about the hard-to-believe sightings of the famous actor as he inserts himself into the lives of regular people, one glorious moment at a time. From popping into an unsuspecting couple’s engagement photos to washing dishes at a random house party, Bill Murray has made presence a way of life.
Bill lives his life as an improv game, saying YES AND to the craziest of scenarios, reminding all of those who are blessed to be in his orbit that nothing compares to experiencing the full richness of the Now. As a fellow improviser and mindfulness thought leader, I was particularly struck by Bill’s commitment to “waking up”. Just as he gets tickled by tickling the experiences of random strangers, I also light up when I can serve as a cosmic alarm clock, waking others up to the magic of the moment and how they can transform their lives into mindful performances.
“Well, the past is gone, I know that. The future isn’t here yet, whatever it’s going to be. So, all there is, is this—the present. That’s it.” – Broken Flowers
