Your Creative Corner of the World

Where are you most creative?

The other day it was absolutely GORGEOUS outside, and I couldn’t stay inside one second longer. I donned my cowboy hat, put in my earbuds, and started hoofing it around my favorite place, Lake Harriet. About mid-way through the walk (as much time as it takes me to unplug, unwind, and unload my stress), I started getting what I call “downloads”. These are insights, inspiration, and information that have value to me. On that afternoon, I received nuggets of awesome that later became a brand new corporate comedy keynote I’m delivering tomorrow!

During my walks, I have written great jokes, fleshed out impactful stories, worked through structural inconsistencies, and firmed up marketing copy.

Something happens when we step away from our glowing machines and plant our feet firmly on the ground. The fresh air clears the mental cobwebs, enabling us to explore possibilities without limits. But it only works if we actually let go of any guilt and expectation. The goal is the walk; the unexpected benefit is often the creative blast of mojo. Where is your special corner of the world? Where can you go to get inspiration and insights? Will you make time this week for your creative health?
