Sage Advice From Bruno Mars

“You can’t dance and get the shot at the same time.”

Bruno Mars shared this insightful nugget of awesome last night at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. My teenage daughter and I were singing and dancing like crazy fools throughout his fabulously entertaining concert. At one point Bruno and his band of Hooligans invited the audience to participate in a joyful dance. While most people were more than happy to join in the collective celebration, there were also a noteworthy amount of people who did not. Instead they were too busy with their faces in their phones recording what was happening onstage. Sure, they may have a grainy video or photo to show that they were there, but they robbed themselves of being fully present at the 24K party of a lifetime.

If you want to really live life to its fullest, put your phone down so you can throw your hands in the air! Feel free to snap a quick shot or two, but don’t deny yourself precious moments in favor of capturing them digitally. Experiencing life with full presence is always yummier than paying partial attention with photos afterward.

Bruno was right: you can’t dance and get the shot at the same time. If faced with a choice, DANCE. Always dance.
