This time of year is a reflective one. We look back on the year that was, celebrating our victories, learning from our missteps, grieving our losses, and appreciating the many experiences we have been blessed to have. It is also the time when we start looking forward to the coming year, deciding how we want the next 365 days to go, both personally and professionally.
Through my studies in mindfulness and manifestation, I have come to the realization that the written word is critical in creating the lives we desire and deserve. Yes, many of us wish for more of some things (sales, money, time, energy, love, health, fun) and less of others (headaches, hassles, heartbreak, heartburn). However, if we cannot clearly articulate what we want EXACTLY, we are opening ourselves up to receiving whatever random adventures that the Universe dishes out to us. Oftentimes those adventures aren’t exactly the ones we had in mind.
As a motivational speaker, I invite my audiences to reflect on their lives both at work and at home, asking them if their daily experiences are what they wish them to be. The vast majority of people tell me that they are definitely not satisfied with their current circumstances, whether it’s physically, emotionally, relationally, or financially. When I ask them what they want instead, I usually get blank stares in return. If you don’t know what you want, how on earth are you expected to get it?
I recently re-read one of my all-time favorite books, Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill. In it, Hill recommends that we specifically define not only what we want but when do we want it by and what will we do to get it. I also personally add a statement that shows how the attainment of my vision contributes to the higher good of all. It makes a yummy loop of giving and receiving that not only supports me, but also my family, my clients and attendees, and the world as a whole.
Below is my current Statement of Intention that I have memorized and recite every morning and every evening. It has been nothing short of miraculous to see it manifest itself in a myriad of positive ways, from a delightful increase in income to major improvements in my health and well-being. Your Statement of Intention will obviously be different than mine, depending on what you want to accomplish. However, it may prove to be inspiring as you consciously and mindfully create your roadmap to success for 2017.
“I am so happy and grateful now that I am a healthy, joyful, well-known and highly sought-after speaker, author, consultant, and positive force in the media who earns at least $XX,XXX every month delivering masterful, high-value presentations and facilitating demonstrable growth for organizations and individuals I admire and enjoy working with.
By partnering with me, my clients and followers receive a massive shot of inspiration and specific, implementable strategies to enrich their lives on every level — physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually and financially — and in every facet of their lives, both personally and professionally. They, in turn, walk in this world more mindfully and contribute to global peace and sustainability.
I accomplish this by being an authentic and powerful person of increase in every exchange, demonstrating an openness of mind and heart, and consistently taking purpose-aligned actions including acceptance of intuition-driven invitations, strategic outreach, and focused follow-through.
Thank you, Spirit, for this or something better!”
I find that getting into the driver’s seat about what I want my life to look like is not only incredibly empowering it is also highly effective. Why? Because I have taken the time to think through exactly what it is that I want, carefully choosing the words that best represent my vision. When I can choose the words that best represent my vision, I can not only energize it on a daily basis, but I can also share them with others in a more meaningful way. And what we share, grows.
When you find yourself ruminating about your dreams for 2017 over the next two weeks, I encourage you to quiet your mind, expand your imagination, get out a notebook, and start writing away. Don’t think small!! Your dream can be as big as you want it to be. Once you have the essence down, take a few more minutes to wordsmith it so it reflects precisely what you want to create. When it’s nearly perfect (nothing ever is!), print a few copies of it out and post it where you will see it several times a day. (Mine is taped on my computer monitor and on my night stand.)
When you keep energizing your Statement of Intention and couple it with consistent, inspired action that is in alignment with it, you WILL create your vision or something even better! How amazing will that be?
Now go start writing.
